Edina Müller

  • „Left, right, left, I dip the paddle, maybe just three strokes - Edina Müller is already passing me. She leans her upper body forward, presses her lips together, turns her arms around quickly with the paddle in her hands, smoothly and evenly. In comparison, I feel lumbering. Like an aged turtle. Müller races like a swordfish on the prowl.

She drags a dark streak in the water behind her. The drops of water that splash off her paddle glisten in the sun. You can hear cars speeding along the nearby highway. For a moment, this sound is irritating, but it quickly fades into the chirping of the birds, the rush of the wind, and the "patter" of the paddle as it dips into the river. What you don't realize while Müller is kayaking: She is a paraplegic. Her wheelchair is waiting on the dock.“
Together with Lisanne Dehnbostel, I met Edina Müller, professional athlete and two-time Olympic gold medalist at her training area and Olympic base at the Dove Elbe in Hamburg
