SARAJEVO
emotion Magazin, 2019

  • I've never been so fascinated, shocked and captivated by a city at the same time. For emotion magazine I went to Sarajevo with the author Annika Lasarzik, and let myself drift through a world full of contrasts for a week. Sarajevo is enchantingly beautiful. The scars of the war cannot be overlooked, but this situation alone! The city nestles between green mountain slopes in the valley of the Miljacka River. A sea of red tile roofs glows in the sun. The cityscape could be: In the suburbs gray Soviet blocks, in the center Wilhelminian style houses and promenade that merge seamlessly into the network of alleys and courtyards of the Ottoman old town. Churches, mosques and synagogues are close together there. The dense coexistence of cultures and religions seems natural. Sarajevo is often called "Europe's Jerusalem". That hits it pretty well.
